His aim is to give players the freedom to express themselves
Indian men's cricket team is all set for the historic debut at the Asian Games cricket campaign starting 3rd October. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad who drew his inspiration from illustrious Mahendra Singh Dhoni, expresses his desire to bring forth his distinct leadership style.
Gaikwad said that he got to learn a lot from Dhoni but considering the fact that every person's personality varies, so does their style. “I will try to be myself and not really look at what he usually does. Obviously, yes you have to pick out some things which he does really well, how he handles situations and how he handles particular players during a match. Obviously, these are (a) few things I really took from him, but I would like to lead the way I want to. I just want the players to express themselves and give how much ever freedom that I can.” he said.
Both fans and players are eagerly looking forward to bringing home another gold medal in Hangzhou after the Indian women's team's splendid performance for the yellow medal earlier in the Games. Gaikwad and team are set to open their campaign in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday against Nepal.
Gaikwad expressed his team's readiness and adaptability, "Everyone, throughout their careers, be it domestic or anything (else), has gone through such dimensions on the cricket ground and I think they are all used to it".
