Did Rohit Report to BCCI About Gavaskar's negative comments?

Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer will miss Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Meghalaya as they prepare for the ODI series against England.

The Indian skipper has reportedly lodged a complaint against legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar with the BCCI. According to the reports published by CricBlogger, Rohit found Gavaskar’s comments on his recent poor form against Australia "too negative" and conveyed his concerns to the board.

Rohit endured a rough series, managing only 31 runs in three Test matches against Australia before voluntarily stepping down for the final Test in Sydney. In his column for the Sydney Morning Herald, Gavaskar remarked that Rohit would step down from captaincy “if he doesn't score runs in Melbourne and Sydney, and he won't wait for the selectors to make that call.”

The CricBlogger report further claims that Rohit expressed discomfort with the external pressure surrounding his performances. A source stated, “Rohit felt that it was not necessary for Gavaskar to criticise him in that fashion, and that's why he complained to the BCCI about Gavaskar.”

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer will miss Mumbai’s crucial Ranji Trophy match against Meghalaya as they prepare for the ODI series against England, starting 6th February in Nagpur. Mumbai, led by Ajinkya Rahane, is third in Group A with 22 points, trailing Jammu & Kashmir and Baroda.

Rohit struggled in the Test series against Australia and continued his poor form in domestic cricket, managing just 3 and 28 against J&K. Jaiswal also had modest scores but performed better in Tests. In contrast, Iyer has been Mumbai’s standout batter, scoring 480 runs in seven Ranji innings at 68.57, along with strong performances in white-ball cricket.

The trio’s return to domestic cricket aligns with BCCI’s mandate following India’s Test series losses to New Zealand and Australia, which ended their World Test Championship hopes.
