Dilapidated Rajasthan United faces Fifa ban, desperate to get investor

RUFC has failed to meet the club licensing criteria for the second consecutive year.

Rajasthan United Football Club (RUFC) has been grappling with a severe financial crisis. Due to the club’s inability to fulfill payment obligations to players over the past few months, FIFA has imposed a ban on the club. Concurrently, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has also sanctioned the club for failing to meet financial commitments to Indian players.

Fifa had already sent a notification letter to RUFC on 27th February 2024, directing the club to clear the payment of the team’s foreign footballer and claimant Paulo Vyctor Bento within 45 days of the notification letter, being sent to the club.

The All India Football Federation's (AIFF) Players' Status Committee also in its decision taken on 19th June this year has directed the club to clear the payment of two more claimants, Indian footballers, Lalbiakzuala and C. Lalchungnunga within the stipulated time.

As the club’s top brass plagued by dire financial distress, has not been able to clear the payment of the footballers, complaining to the Fifa and the AIFF, respectively, RUFC has faced a ban on recruiting new footballers from Fifa.

It is also believed that the overall salary of the team's footballers, coaching staff as well as employees has been pending for the last seven to eight months.

In addition, RUFC has failed to meet the club licensing criteria for the second consecutive year. This failure includes the critical issue of not having a home stadium to host their matches, severely impacting the club’s operational capabilities and competitive performance.

The club’s one of the directors Rajat Misra however refused to talk to Parallel Sports when contacted.

It is also learned that RUFC, desperate in search of an investor, has received willingness from a Kolkata-based business group recently to take over the club. But at the same time, the new investor whoever shows interest on taking over the team, has to clear the debt that has reportedly reached a huge amount, nearly crores.
