Dipa Karmakar, India’s celebrated gymnast announced her retirement from professional gymnastics, on Monday. The 31-year-old gymnast took to social media and posted a heartfelt message expressing her gratitude.
In her Instagram post, she wrote - “After much contemplation, I have made the decision to retire from gymnastics. This was not an easy choice for me, but I believe it is the right time. Gymnastics has been a significant part of my life, and I am grateful for every moment I spent in the sport.”
“Today, I feel immense pride reflecting on my achievements. Representing India on the world stage and winning medals, especially my performance at the Rio Olympics, has been the most memorable highlight of my career. My last victory at the Asian Gymnastics Championships in Tashkent was a turning point for me. I felt I could push my body further, but sometimes our bodies signal that it's time to rest, even when our hearts are reluctant to accept it.”
