Dipa Karmakar starts her second innings as coach; desires to produce even a ‘better’ gymnast’ than her!

Dipa is presently in Dehradun in the ongoing National Games as a Gymnastics Federation-appointed Technical Official.

Dipa Karmakar has started her second innings as a coach! One of the world's five female gymnasts to have mastered the Produnova vault and the first Indian gymnast to have won the gold medal in a Global event, Padmasree Dipa Karmar has started coaching around 20 kids, aged between five and seven years at her state gymnastics training centre where she started training under Dronacharya Bishweshar Nandi to help Indian gymnastics become known in the world ultimately.

Dipa who is presently in Dehradun in the ongoing National Games as a Gymnastics Federation-appointed Technical Official revealed while speaking over phone, “I have started a couple of months ago with around 20 kids at our state gymnastics training centre where I used to trial. Bishweshar sir also attends the training session. I spend a lot of time with my sir even after the end of training to develop knowledge.”

Dipa also revealed that she is willing to acquire coaching license in future. “There are international coaching license in gymnastics like Level-1, Level-2. I have plans to acquire those licenses gradually."

"But I have the biggest advantage of having sir beside me who will teach me the essence of coaching. There is a huge difference between practicing and performing as player and performing as a coach.”

When asked about her ultimate desire, Dipa stated, "My success as a coach will be that day when my student will break my achievement, and that is my ultimate desire to produce a gymnast, even better than me!"

Dipa Karmakar retired from professional gymnastics last year.
