Dipa is likely to take part in any of these international competitions and Nandy divulged that looking forward to the Paris Olympics next year, he will be able to make an exact assessment of Dipa's condition in the international competition.
Dipa Karmakar has decided to take part in domestic competitions like the National Games, and National Championships. The decision was taken after being the victim of 'injustice' before the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Despite having earned the number one position in the GFI (Gymnastics Federation of India) selection trials for the Asian Games Dipa was disallowed by the Union sports ministry and SAI to take part in the Asian Games on the basis that the Padmasree awardee gymnast did not participate in the competitions for long time.
Dipa’s coach, Dronacharya awardee, Bisweswar Nandy revealed, “It was extremely frustrating for us and following the ‘injustice’ I have decided not to ask Dipa to participate in any domestic competition. That is why she was not seen in the recently-concluded National Games.”
Significantly, Dipa rocked India’s gymnastics fraternity by winning gold medals in the all-round and all four events (floor, balance beam, vault & uneven bar).
Nandy however has set goals for his student. That is the international competitions, scheduled to be held in Egypt, Germany, and Doha in January.
Dipa is likely to take part in any of these international competitions and Nandy divulged that looking forward to the Paris Olympics next year, he will be able to make an exact assessment of Dipa's condition in the international competition.
Dipa's one of the key strengths is her indomitable mental strength. Even at the age of 30 and with a damaged right knee, the gold medal winner gymnast in the 2018 World Cup is training five hours every day at Agartala.
Dipa who has joined as the Deputy Director of Sports in Tripura recently, is training 720 degree Tsukahara vault on the back and 540 degree difficulty on the front although she is yet to recover from her knee stress.
Nandy said, “I can assure you will not find a second Dipa Karmakar in India in the next 50 years. I still cannot forget how Dipa was rejected for the Asian Games despite the fact that she emerged number one in the selection trial. In my association with gymnastics as a player and a coach for the last 40 years, I have never seen such discrimination where a gymnast's current performance is ignored. Gymnastics is a game where you have to judge the gymnast's performance always based on her current performance."
