Dipa wants to contribute to gymnastics through coaching; Nandi says he will teach her all his expertise

Nandi wants her to acquire international coaching degrees which will help Dipa to get a license in coaching in the future.

Dipa Karmakar wants to become a serious coach. The 31-year-old gymnast, the country's first female Olympian gymnast announced retirement from the game on Monday and she has started planning for her future! 

Her Dronacharya awardee coach Bishweshwar Nandi, supporting her decision disclosed that he will be giving her all his expertise in coaching. Additionally, Nandi wants her to acquire international coaching degrees which will help Dipa to get a license in coaching in the future. 

Dipa, speaking over the phone on Monday evening said, "I want to contribute to Indian gymnastics through coaching. It might be that I cannot reach the level of my sir Bishweshwar Nandi. Still, I will learn from him. I will also try to acquire coaching degrees so that I can produce a few gymnasts who will glorify the country." 

And Nandi stated, "She has the potential to become a more successful coach than me. I will teach her all the expertise I have learned in the last 40 years of my coaching career. I also want her to acquire international coaching degrees in gymnastics so that she can get an official coaching license. Initially she will have to observe me at the gym for the time I will train other gymnasts." 

Dipa who is one of the world's five female gymnasts to have mastered the Produnova vault, the most difficult in vault event remembered adding, "Apart from my performance in Rio Olympics, the gold medal in Asian Championship in May this year has been memorable. Coming off a severe knee injury and operation I could prove my mettle in the competition and I felt this has been the best time to say goodbye with a gold medal.”

Dipa is the first female Indian gymnast to have worn a gold medal in the Asian Championship and she is the first female Indian gymnast to have acquired a bronze medal in a Commonwealth Games (Glasgow).
