It might be a World Cup qualifier or the selection trial for the Asian games can be the first competition for the return of Dipa Karmakar after a long lay-off.
Bisweshar Nandi, Dronacharya awardee coach of gymnast Dipa Karmakar strongly disproved the news published in a section of media on Wednesday that Dipa Karmakar has been included in the national probables for the upcoming international competitions through 'back door'.
Nandi while speaking to Parallel Sports on Thursday explained, "It is gymnastics' world body's circular as well as WADA's official instruction that Dipa despite going through the 21-month suspension, can join the national camp two months only for practice and she can only participate in competitions after her ban gets lifted on 10th July. So there is no question of getting enlisted through the 'back door'.
Nandi added explaining, "Dipa was training at the preparatory camp and there she was tested for doping twice. One of the NADA-listed prohibited drugs was there in Dipa's body. But NADA has not been able to divulge how it got into Dipa's body. Still, we admitted our fault and made an appeal to lift her ban and it came to 21 months finally following our official request."
According to Nandi, the 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist is now fully fit. The Rajiv Khel Ratna and Padmasree awardee gymnast who missed a medal by a whisker in the Rio Olympics had participated in an international competition last a couple of years ago and now she is ready to be back on the floor.
Nandi divulged saying, "I am still not sure whether she will be back with her famous 'Produnova vault' in the competition. She is practicing T-720 Sukahara vault regularly."
A Tsukahara vault consists of a half turn off the springboard onto the vault table, then a push backward, usually into a back somersault, and finally spinning 720 degrees in the air before landing straight on the floor.
Nandy revealed they are now waiting for the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) call-up in the national preparatory camp, to start in Odisha from the last week of this month and Dipa's coach feels it might be a World Cup qualifier or the selection trial for the Asian games can be the first competition for the return of Dipa Karmakar after a long lay-off.
