Abhay-Anahat settle for bronze in the mixed doubles
Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Harinder Pal Sandhu, defeated Hong Kong’s Ka Yi Lee and Chi Him Wong at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Wednesday, October 4, to advance to the mixed doubles final.
The Indians won 7-11, 11-7, 11-9 in 38 minutes against their opponents.
Seasoned players Dipika and Harindar lost their opening game to the Hong Kong duo but managed to turn the tables as they took the second game for themselves in just 9 minutes.
The 15 minutes decider was tied at 9-9 before Sandhu claimed two points and won the match.
The second Indian pair, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh lost to Malaysia’s Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Kamal on Wednesday in the other mixed doubles semi-final and managed to claim bronze.
The Indian pair lost to 11-8, 2-11, 9-11 in 39 minutes. Anahat collided with Azman and the Indians won the first game comfortably, however, they lost the second one.
In the deciding game the Indians managed a 9-6 but the Malaysians pulled out five points and advanced to the final.
India has already successfully claimed a gold medal in the men’s team event and a bronze in women’s team at the Hangzhou Games.
