Djokovic beats Nadal 6-1, 6-4 to move to third round

It was 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic's 31st win in a rivalry that began on the same Roland Garros clay courts in 2006.

Top-seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic claimed a one-sided 6-1, 6-4 victory against Rafael Nadal in the pair's 60th and potentially last meeting, at the second round of men's singles tennis at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Monday.

It was 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic's 31st win in a rivalry that began on the same Roland Garros clay courts in 2006.

Djokovic got off to a roaring start in the match, and looked absolutely flawless in securing 10 of the first 11 games, with Nadal nowhere near the skilled and ever-hustling version of himself that won a record 14 French Open titles and owned a jaw-dropping 112-4 record on the same Parisian red clay at Roland Garros, that is hosting Summer Olympic matches.

The Spaniard instead looked diminished, showing every bit of his 38 years, and looking like someone who might be ready to head into retirement after playing only sparingly the past two seasons because of a series of injuries, including hip surgery.

Rafa may be out of the singles draw, but his Paris-Olympic campaign ain't over yet. He still has his hopes of claiming gold with a dream combination with Carlos Alcaraz. The pair, dubbed ''Nadalcaraz' by the younger Spaniard, beat Argentina's A Molteni, and M Gonzalez 7-6, 6-4 in their opener and will play their second match on Tuesday.
