Djokovic pays tribute to Nadal's incredible 18-year-reign as the World number one, ended finally

He first broke into the Top 10 on April 25, 2005. During those 18 years, Nadal has spent 209 weeks as World No. 1

Rafael Nadal is out of the Top 10 for the first time in nearly 18 years. He first broke into the Top 10 on April 25, 2005. During those 18 years, Nadal has spent 209 weeks as World No. 1. The tennis world is witnessing the close of an era, as the Spanish icon exits the prestigious group for the first time since 2005. Nadal's unwavering dominance in the rankings for almost two decades has left an indelible mark on the sport.

However, a series of unfortunate injuries and unexpected defeats have led to his gradual descent in the ATP Rankings. The issues began with his continuous struggle with injuries since Wimbledon last year, which significantly impacted his performance and tournament participation.

In the newest edition of the ATP Rankings, Nadal is ranked 13th as Jannik Sinner and Cameron Norrie are the first two players out of the Top 10 and ranked ahead of the Spaniard. Out of his 2715 points, Nadal will soon defend 2000 at the Roland Garros, where he will want to win his 15th title.

Nadal: An era comes to end.

After it became almost sure that due to his injury, he will drop out of the Top 10, the 22-time Grand Slam champion expressed sadness while speaking. He also admitted that his time was coming to an end. He stated, "I prefer to be in the top 10, it's obvious, but in the end, you have to accept things as they come. With all the injuries have had over the last 18 years, not having left the top 10 on any occasion is practically a miracle."

Novak Djokovic who secured the second spot in the top-10 ATP ranked players, however, has paid tribute to his rival for his epic streak in the top 10 before it finally comes to an end, telling reporters in Dubai: "It has been incredible consistency. He has been well-known for that over the years. Yes, I have only full respect for him. Just being able to for almost 20 years be in the top 10, that has not been unheard of, honestly."
