Novak Djokovic crashed out of the Indian Wells 2025 after losing to Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands in three sets. Van de Zandschulp, who beat Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open and Rafael Nadal in the Davis Cup last time, now got the better of the 24-time Grand Slam champion after winning the first-round match 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

After 6 years, 11 months, 16 days (2542 calendar days) since 2018, Djokovic lost three matches on the trot. After losing to his Dutch opponent, the Serb admitted that he had a bad day in the office.

Djokovic, 37, retired from his Australian Open semifinal against Alexander Zverev with a hamstring injury said after the match, "Obviously no excuses for a poor performance. It doesn't feel great when you play this way on the court, but congratulations to my opponent. Just a bad day in the office, I guess, for me. I regret the level of tennis considering how I practice these days,” Djokovic told the reporters after the match.
