Dutee to fight against the four-year-ban verdict, lawyer optimistic about the reduction of punishment

Dutee's last competition was Commonwealth Games in London and then National Games in Gujarat.

Dutee Chand has been served a four-year ban by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) Court. According to Anti Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP) verdict headed by judge Chaitanya Mahajan, the ace sprinter violated articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) and she is hereby sanctioned with an ineligibility period of four years as per article 10.2.1.1 of the NADA ADR 2021 beginning from the date of provisional suspension that will be effective from 3rd January 2023.

But the record-holder in the Indian Grand Prix in 2021 (11.17 seconds) is not sitting idle. She is going to file an appeal against the verdict shortly. She has the provision of submitting her appeal within the next 21 days.

Speaking over the phone from Bhubaneswar, Duttee commented, "My lawyer sounded optimistic when I talked to him about the appeal for the reduction of my punishment. I did not take any such prohibited anabolic drugs which could have enhanced my performance in the competitions. I was doing off-season training when I had to undergo the dope tests. So, my intention must have been clear to the NADA officers.”

But the 29-year-old sprinter, who has been continuing training at the KITT training center in Bhubaneswar, is aware that she will not be able to compete in the Asian Games this year commencing on 22nd September.

She added, "I competed last in the London Commonwealth Games and then National Games last year in Gujarat. Since then I have been in the training phase. I know participation in the Asian Games this year cannot be possible. But even if the punishment is reduced for two or three years then also I can motivate myself to take part in the competitions after my suspension gets over.”
