Earthquake kills Turkish goalkeeper, former Chelsea striker also injured severely
The devastating earthquake in Turkey that has killed more than 1400 people so far has also taken the live of Eysup Turkaslan, one of the prominent goalkeepers in Turkish club football. The goalkeeper, aged 28 was trapped under rubble after the massive earthquake on Monday. His body was recovered finally on Tuesday from the ruins but he was no more. His club coach Yalmaz Vural confirmed his death. Turkaslan signed for Turkish first division Malatyaspor in 2021. Incidentally, Turkaslan's wife who was also trapped in the debris was rescued by the disaster management team.
Incidentally, Chelsea's former footballer Christian Atsu who now represents Turkish club team Hatayspor was also trapped in the rubble following the deadly earthquake. But he was finally found in a severely injured condition and admitted to the hospital immediately.
Atsu played in two English clubs, Chelsea and Newcastle. Now he plays for the Turkish club Hatayspor. The club is located in the Kahramanmaras area where the earthquake hit mostly. According to Turkish media, the 31-year-old striker was severely injured on his right leg and as he already had a breathing problem, the footballer became seriously ill. Along with Atsu, the club's sporting director Taner Savut was also entrapped in the rubble and he is still missing.
