East Bengal has initiated talks with Spanish coach Josep Gombau, planning to rope in replacing Stephen Constantine following the team's disastrous performance in the Indian Super League this season.
At the same time, it has also been learned that Stephen Constantine, in a last-ditch effort to retain his existing chair has requested the club's investor to retain him as the chief coach even at a reduced salary. It is also learned that the investor group was keen to retain Stephen if he agrees to continue with a reduced salary.

The club officials however already had submitted a proposal to its investor, asking them to select one among the five proposed ISL coaches. The first preference among the list of five coaches was the Spanish coach of Manolo Marquez who is contracted with Hyderabad FC till 2022-23.
However, at the same time, the investor group is also in search of an experienced person who will work as the sports director of the team. The company is reportedly talking to a person regarding the matter who once brought Athletico Madrid to Kolkata.
