East Bengal invites the family of the late Munna and two former Bangladesh internationals

Aslam and several former Bangladesh internationals have formed a Masters' Association named 'Sonali Atit'.

The nostalgia came back at the East Bengal club premises on Monday evening probably after three decades thanks to East Bengal club executives for inviting the family of one of the team's superstars of the early 90s, late Monem Munna and his teammates Aslam and Ghaus to Kolkata on the occasion of club’s 104th Foundation Day on Tuesday on 1st August at Kshudiram Anusilan Kendra. 

Munna was one of the anchors in the Kolkata League winning the red-and-gold brigade in 1991 and played for the team till 1993. His wife Yasmin Monem, son Azman Salid along with former Bangladesh internationals Aslam and Ghaus who also represented East Bengal at the same time were present at the club. Along with them, former president of Bangladesh Abahani Krirachakra Harunur Rashid and the country’s renowned musician Mehrin Mamood have also come to grace the occasion. 

Former Indian internationals like Manoranjan Bhattacharya, Prasanta Banerjee, Alok Mukherjee, Tarun Dey, Bikash Panji, and Bhaskar Ganguly who played with Munna, Aslam, and Ghaus at the same time were also invited at the club on the day. 

Prasanta Banerjee recalling from memory said, “Munna was a utility footballer. He worked hard and used to run a lot covering the whole ground. He was so consistent for East Bengal in 1991 that made him so popular among the East Bengal fans.”

Aslam while sharing memories with the former Indian internationals, revealed that they have formed a Masters’ association named Sonali Atit (golden past) comprising the former international footballers. Banerjee divulged that Aslam has also invited them to go to Bangladesh and take part in an exhibition match.
