Devastated by their traditional rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giants in the country’s premier football league ISL with a 1-3 score-line in the last Kolkata derby on 10th March at the Salt Lake Stadium, East Bengal’s hockey team salvaged some pride, winning the derby against Mohun Bagan by a solitary goal in the Calcutta Premier Division hockey league on Tuesday at Mohammedan Sporting ground.

Gurjinder Singh struck the winner in the early second session of the match from a field goal, helping his team to reach the top of the League table and close toward the title this season.

Mohun Bagan however dominated over their opposition in the first session as they squandered a couple of chances from penalty corners.

However, the match did not witness any violence as it happened last year.
