Falguni wants IFA to ‘acquire’ the under-17 team

The matches were played on Astroturf which forced several footballers to suffer from muscle-cramp.

Falguni Dutta wants the Indian Football Association (IFA) to acquire the BC Roy Trophy winner under-17 Bengal team. The purpose is to produce quality Bengali footballers at the senior level. Former India international Falguni Dutta’s guidance guided under-17 Bengal to clinch the junior national championship title for the B.C Roy Trophy in Chhattisgarh with the triumph against formidable Odisha in the final this week.

One of the key factors behind Bengal’s title was the perfect scouting and selection of the team made by Falguni. Bengal could obtain only a week for training after the team selection process was completed.

Dutta deserves the credit. But he affirms, “I could make a proper selection from the trials only due to IFA secretary Anirban Dutta. He assured me of no interference in the selection process.”

When asked about his desire, Dutta revealed, "This team has potential. Bengal can surely hope to get footballers of even international standard from this team in the future. But the boys must need proper nurturing, both on the pitch and off the field."

Falguni explained, "In a bid to groom and nurture these boys, IFA can acquire them. As a part of the exposure, they can participate in the lower division of the CFL under IFA’s banner as we once took part in the CFL under Howrah Union’s banner. Late Amal Dutta was our coach at that time. IFA will get the benefit ultimately when these boys will reach senior level. While building up the Bengal team for the Santosh Trophy you will have the supply-line ready.”

Bengal had to take part in back-to-back matches in the group stage against teams like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Chhattisgarh. The boys were naturally tired before the semifinal. Additionally, the matches were played on Astroturf which forced several footballers to have muscle-cramp.

Still, Falguni believes the strength of the reserve bench was another factor behind Bengal's success.

When asked about his top scorer Shubhodip Sardar Dutta who also looks after East Bengal’s youth teams stated, "He is hugely talented. You will be surprised by his speed, off-the-ball movement, and the natural ability to send correct passes. But I must say again that he needs proper guidance to maintain the same quality of performance at the senior level also."
