Uttorer Mohun Bagan, one of the leading fan groups of Mohun Bagan Athletic club has made a humanitarian appeal to the Green and Maroon officials on the issue of the tricky expulsion of Narendra Nayek, an old cum long time servant of MBFC. In order to commemorate his contributions to the club, the supporters and fans opined that a benefit match could be arranged on behalf of the Mohun Bagan officials.

Nayek had come to the club premise in the year of 1978, when he was in fourteen. The then young boy appeared to the club house from Jajpur, a small town of Odisha. Nearly four decades, he spent his golden days with the mariners’ tent. Within a very few days, he made himself as a plausible person and started making inward relation with the contemporary footballers like: Subrata Bhattacharya, Manas Bhattacharya, Bidesh Bose, Gautam Sarkar, Sisir Ghosh, Satyajit Chatterjee and so on. He carefully looked after and maintained a lively dressing room environment. Even in the Covid days, Narendra Nayek proved his affection and endearment to the club and its green field. Unfortunately, he was compelled to leave his fondness to his motherly club and the time has come to say good bye.

On this occasion, Bidesh Bose and Gautam Sarkar, the former Indian internationals from Calcutta, participated a benefit match. In a similar way club can think of organizing a benefit match for Narendra Nayak. Bidesh Bose also recalled “After the retirement of Bhasia Mali, Narendra Nayek succeeded as the chief of ground staff. So, a benefit match could arrange on behalf of the Bagan officials that could support Nuri da financially”. Gutam Sarkar also expressed “Narendra should deserve a better amount”.
