FC Goa disappoints East Bengal fans with their 2-1 victory

Victor, Jhingan goals help FCG to third win, the team achieve three wins from three in this ISL season

FC Goa frustrates the East Bengal fans with their victory 2-1 against East Bengal at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. This affected the mood of Mahasaptami which is being celebrated across Kolkata and West Bengal with gusto. Goa makes it three wins from three in this season of ISL, while, East Bengal have now won just one of their last four matches despite three of them being home matches.

In the first half of the game amidst a plethora of missed opportune moments for both teams and even more attacks and counter attacks, Naorem Mahesh stepped up to the occasion and gave East Bengal the lead. Nandha stole the ball from Jay Gupta, ran into the final third passed it to the rushing Mahesh who found the top right corner of the net.

In the second half, FC Goa were desperate for an equaliser. In the 74th minute Sandesh Jhingan found the back of the net from an indirect free kick curtsey to the perfect delivery by Victor Rodriguez. 

In the very next minute, Victor Rodrigues took his turn to be the goal scorer as Carlos played him through inside the box followed by a long pass from Paulo Retre. Victor made no mistake and swiveled and shot it past Prabhsukhan into the far post to lead Goa to victory. Victor Rodrigues achieved player of the match. The second half was all about FC Goa, as East Bengal's attacks were filled with bad passes and inaccuracies.
