ACB was offered two other venues in Kanpur and Bengaluru, however, Afghanistan chose this venue for the easy transportation to Delhi airport, also those were used for BCCI matches.
First time in 91 years in Indian Cricket history a test series was abandoned without a single ball being bowled, on Friday. The one-off between Afghanistan and New Zealand was cancelled due to the 5 days of continuous rain in Greater Noida.
The continuous downpour made the field too wet, along with poor facilities and lack of infrastructure made it nearly impossible to play. Initially, the attempts to dry the field were seen with electrical fans, and laying dry grass however none of these attempts worked.
This test match was to be the debut match in Greater Noida. However various questions arose regarding basic facilities like the drainage system, after the first day was abandoned. ACB was offered two other venues in Kanpur and Bengaluru, however, Afghanistan chose this venue for the easy transportation to Delhi airport, also those were used for BCCI matches.
India hosted its first test match in 1933. So, for the first time in 91 years in Indian soil a test match washed out because of weather and negligence of administration.
New Zealand players were notified that they couldn’t practice due to the rain. They are now gearing up to face Sri Lanka and India.
On Thursday, the Afghanistan Cricket Board released a statement - "The fourth day of the only Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand teams is also not going to be played due to continued rainfall,".
