Floodlight not ready, Beighton Cup matches to be held in day-light

Beighton Cup will be held from 19th to 28th January including the qualifiers and final round matches.

The floodlights at the Astroturf of Kolkata’s Sports Authority of India (SAI) were already installed. Still, the Beighton Cup cannot be held under the lights. Hockey Bengal, the organizer of the country's oldest competition is being compelled to change the timing of the matches that were scheduled in the evening under floodlights.

Out of the four floodlight towers, one has not yet been tested by the electric department and the light cannot be sufficient for the tournament.

Beighton Cup will be held from 19th to 28th January including the qualifiers and final round matches. It is learnt that 14 out-stationed teams including the defending champion Indian Navy will be vying for the title.

It is also learned that Indian Oil, ONGC will comprise a few junior World Cuppers and former India internationals. Six local teams from the qualifiers will be eligible to take part in the final round.
