Football is rolling even amidst the blazing Manipur, MPL to be introduced without the 'Kuki' footballers

A serious conflict between Kuki and Meitei, the two tribal communities has increased the intensity of violence.

Football has not stopped even amidst the ongoing disaster in Manipur. Manipur Football Association (MFA) recently organized the under-17 girls' championship and under-17 boys' state championships to select state teams for the under-17 boys' national championship as well as the under-17 girls' national championships.

The state association is going to organize a coaching license course from 6th August. Jyotirmoy Roy, the secretary of the state association revealed, "All football activities took place in Imphal which has not been affected badly. We have also decided to introduce Manipur Premier League (MPL) this year after September. I am optimistic that the situation will be fully under control by that time."

According to plans, MPL will start with six top-ranked teams from the Manipur State League and they will take part in a home-away-basis format. But, MSA is going to issue a circular that the participating teams will have to play without the footballers of the 'Kuki' community.

A serious conflict between Kuki and Meitei, the two tribal communities has increased the intensity of violence where several people have died, and houses and properties have been destroyed. Footballers have not been exception. Recently, the two footballers of the Kuki community who participated in the Santosh Trophy last season from Manipur are reportedly missing.

Then at least 25 to 30 footballers have left the state recently, taking the opportunity to sign for different I-league and second vision I-league teams. Roy said, "They are not leaving the state due to the ongoing disorder. Rather they are getting offers from different teams across the country. They will be back again after a couple of months."

Except for Chinglensana Kangujam, none of Manipuri footballers' property has not yet been destroyed. The Indian footballer's houses were burnt by the rebels recently.
