Former Bangladesh international footballer’s shop looted, brothers are homeless

The goalkeeping coach of the senior national team revealed on social media the miserable condition he and his family members are facing in the ongoing anarchy.

It started as a protest against a quota system for government jobs in Bangladesh. Now it has turned into widespread looting and rioting across the country, with the minority community, mainly Hindus, coming under attack. However, at the same time, there have been visuals of Bangladesh's Muslim clerics guarding a Hindu temple in Cumilla. Another video showed a group of students protecting the Dhakeshwari Mandir in Dhaka.

A report in Bangladesh's Daily Star said houses and business establishments of Hindus were attacked by the miscreants and their valuables were also looted in at least 27 districts on Monday. The Jammat-e-Islami has admitted to targeting Hindu temples.

Biplab Bhattacharjee, the former Bangladesh international footballer, and his family are also in great danger. The former international goalkeeper represented the country for 14 years and also worked as the goalkeeping coach of the senior national team.

He has taken up social media to inform about the miserable condition he and his family members are facing in the ongoing anarchy.

He has written, 'I cannot believe. I am just speechless. Even though I never associated myself with any political party, the miscreants looted our shoe shop in Laksam. My brothers have been threatened to leave. One of my brothers is already homeless for the last couple of days. I never imagined this day where the people like us have also been deprived of security.'
