A new team of under-14 and under-16 will be formed by the club to participate in KPL fifth division.
After a span of 69 years, Veteran Sports Club is likely to make a take-off that can be called a rejuvenation of the prestigious club that was once graced by legendary sportspersons like the late Gostho Paul, late Chuni Goswami, late Badru Banerjee, and late Lesley Claudius.
The initiative has been taken by the club's present executive committee members comprising the former India international footballers Shyam Thapa, the president, Sumit Mukherjee, the secretary, Bhaskar Ganguly, Mihir Basu, Ranjit Mukherjee, Krishnendu Roy, Aloke Mukherjee, Biswajit Bhattacharya, Satyabrata Bhowmick and many others.
Sumit Mukherjee when asked how they are planning to make the reforms, described, "We have already a camp with nursery boys for around last eight to 10 years. But that was not running with a professional attitude. We will scout quality under-12 footballers from different coaching camps across the state and make a strong side to participate in the nursery-B league this year."
Simultaneously, a new committee has planned to form an elite team in the under-14 and under-16 age group which will consist of potential footballers that will have the opportunity to take part in Kolkata's fifth division league, under-18 I-League in the future. Mukherjee stated, "Considering our plans, our former international footballers, Bhaskar Ganguly, Shyam Thapa, Aloke Mukherjee, Krishnendu Roy, and Ranjit Mukherjee will teach and train those boys. 25 boys will be selected initially in the project. Incidentally, one of our well-wishers, Jishnu Trust Foundation has promised us that the organization will come forward with financial assistance for those 25 boys."
Veteran Sports Club secretary also divulged saying that the existing club tent in Maidan is also going to be reformed completely along with a garden on the premises.
Apart from the reformation of the club's football, the new committee, following Mukherjee and Shyam Thapa's enthusiasm has decided to introduce a hockey training program soon. Mukherjee said, "As a secretary, I have introduced a theme for the Veterans Club. That is to respect the former internationals and encourage the coming generation so that they can carry on the mantle. So as late Claudius was our president we planned to start training programs on hockey also through scouting potential young players. We already organized a hockey tournament named after Claudius and noticed tremendous craze over the tournament. That inspired us to think over the training program in the near future."
