Ghosh not to depend on big clubs’ whim, Sujata concerned with preparation time

Under Ghosh's guidance Bengal finished runners-up in the B.C Roy Trophy competition in Odisha this year.

Amit Ghosh does not want to depend on Kolkata's 'so-called' big clubs' whim considering the release of respective footballers for Bengal's forthcoming engagement in the Khelo India Games football tournament, commencing on 19th January in Tamil Nadu.

Amit Ghosh and Sujata Kar have been selected coaches of Bengal’s men’s and women’s football teams respectively.

Ghosh under whose guidance Bengal finished runners-up in the B.C Roy Trophy competition in Odisha recently, revealed the IFA has promised to offer all kinds of co-operation for the preparation that will be held at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium ground following a three-day selection trial at the end of this month.

Ghosh stated "I do not want to depend on the 'so-called' big teams' whim considering the release of their footballers for the camp. Bengal has been affected by the issue in most of the national championships this year, especially in the Santosh Trophy. This is an under-19 competition. So, I need a quality team. But my advice is that footballers from all the second division teams are called up and I believe I will get potential footballers from these teams.”

Sujata Kar also has a feeling that the city’s big clubs are unlikely to release their footballers for the preparatory camp. So she has decided to call up a maximum number of footballers in the selection trial to build up the squad. But the former national coach seems concerned mainly with the preparation time.

She stated, "We will have to play matches in the ongoing Kanyasree Cup till the 29th of this month and the tournament starts on the 19th January. You need a minimum of 21 days' preparation to build up and combine a strong team. The preparatory time is not enough. Still, I will try my best."
