Gopinath Ghosh’s Advice, Arup’s call, and Mouma’s recommendation in Pushilal’s memory

After more than three decades of coaching, producing at least 15 Indian international paddlers Jayanta Pushilal finally was bestowed with the Dronacharya Award for 2022-23.

Former secretary of Bengal Table Tennis Association (BTTA) Gopinath Ghosh gave him the valuable advice of starting coaching. His two precious students Arup Basak sent him congratulations from Mumbai and Mouma Das made valuable recommendations while filling up the online application form for the Dronacharya award this year.

After more than three decades of coaching, producing at least 15 Indian international paddlers Jayanta Pushilal finally was bestowed with the Dronacharya Award for 2022-23.

The 64-year-old coach revealed he remembered three significant names immediately after the Union Sports Ministry’s declaration. They are Gopinath Ghosh, the former secretary of BTTA who gave him the valuable advice of joining coaching decades ago. Then he remembered his two students, Mouma Das and Arup Basak.

Jayanta did not hesitate stating, “Mouma had an important contribution. She made the recommendation, paying the big homage.” Simultaneously, Jayanta mentioned, “Arup called me, congratulated me. I felt very happy. I also remember Gopinath Ghosh who gave me the advice to start coaching."

Jayanta does not have any regrets. He added, "You need the time to deserve such an award. I am not only happy, feel motivated too. I am still a working coach, training several potential youngsters who could bring laurels for the country in the future."

Coaching international paddlers in a California club for a span of 15 months in total increased his experience. Still, he pays the maximum credit to the cradle of his coaching career Narkeldanga Byam Samity.

Mouma Das, the 39-year-old Arjuna Awardee paddler who will be playing singles in the senior national championship in Panchkula said, “The effort was taken three years ago. I am happy that sir finally received his deserving recognition.”

Mouma also mentioned Jayanta’s training style explaining, “We all enjoyed practice despite such a rigorous training schedule and that was his credit to bring the best from us on the board.”
