Gujarat Titans snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat as they beat Lucknow Super Giants by seven runs in a thriller.
The captain is taking responsibility and winning the match, but what KL Rahul did against Gujarat on Saturday was exactly the opposite. Chasing 136 runs, he played till the last over but did not win the match.
Gujarat captain Hardik won the toss and decided to bat first. But the last time champions could not take special advantage on the slow pitch of Lucknow. Gujarat scored only 135 runs for 6 wickets after batting 20 overs. Captain Hardik scored 66 runs. Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha also played a sparkling inning of 47 runs off 37 balls. Moreover, no other batter could make such a mark. As a result, the run rate did not increase much.
In reply, Lucknow got off to a great start. They crossed 50 runs during the power play. But after the dismissal of Kyle Meyers, the run rate started to decrease. Noor Mohammed, Jayant Yadav, and Rashid Khanra brought Gujarat back into the match. The middle overs did not get runs like that. Slow innings by skipper KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya are largely responsible for that. Rahul scored 68 runs off 61 balls. He batted till the last over but could not finish the match. As a result, the pressure fell on the other batters. Krunal also played a slow inning of 23 runs off 23 balls.
Rahul-Krunal's slow innings required 12 runs in the last over. Rahul and Badoni were still batting. But 4 wickets fell in the last over. Two of which were run-outs. Runs are only 4. In the end, Gujarat won by 7 runs. Lucknow lost the match by an almost impossible hand.
