Harbhajan Singh highlighted the lack of experience of the Reddy. The all-rounder accumulated 779 in 23 matches that he played with an average of 21.05, as well as claimed 56 wickets at an average of 26.98.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has raised concerns about Team India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He questioned the omission of Shardul Thakur and expressed doubts about debuting Nitish Kumar Reddy in the first Test.
Team India is reportedly considering debuting all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His inclusion follows his recent T20 International debut against Bangladesh, marking a significant milestone in his young career.
The cricketer stated, "You needed an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya. But you don't have an option but to play Nitish Kumar Reddy.”
Harbhajan Singh highlighted the lack of experience of the 21-year-old all-rounder. He accumulated 779 in 23 matches that he played with an average of 21.05, as well as claimed 56 wickets at an average of 26.98.
In a recent discussion with Jatin Sapru, the former spinner also pointed out the absence of Shardul Thakur, a key contributor to India’s memorable series win in Australia during the 2020-21 season.
“Where is Shardul Thakur? Where is Hardik Pandya? We just confined them to shorter formats. Suddenly, on a tour like this, you're asking Nitish to bowl," Harbhajan claimed.
Harbhajan further claimed that Reddy’s role in the team resembles former captain Sourav Ganguly’s bowling contributions.
“He can bowl a few overs here and there, like Sourav Ganguly did, and if he gets 1-2 wickets, that would be a bonus,” Harbhajan remarked.
With the first Test set to begin at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Friday, the team’s selection strategy has come under scrutiny.
