India started the season with a disappointing performance at the World Cup Hockey at Bhubaneswar.
Indian men's hockey team skipper Harmanpreet Singh said that the newly appointed chief coach of the national team, Craig Fulton, has new plans for the team this year and brings new energy to every session.
India started the season with a disappointing performance at the World Cup Hockey at Bhubaneswar. In a do-or-die match against New Zealand, after squandering several chances, India lost to see themselves out of the tournament.
However, the team made a comeback in the Pro-league. Currently, the Indian team is preparing for the European leg of the FIH Hockey Pro-league under Craig Fulton.
In a press release, Hockey India quoted the Indian skipper and said that Craig Fulton has a well-structured plan for the team's preparation for the European leg of the Pro-league. Harmanpreet has remarked that the team is in good momentum.
Harmanpreet added, "We will have 45 days to prepare for the Asian Championship 2023 to be held in Chennai. Doing well in this tournament will give us the confidence to put on a good show in the Asian Games." He thanked the Tamil Nadu Government for extending this support.
The Indian hockey team is excited to play on the home turf at the Asian Championship. Barring the men's hockey World Cup at Bhubaneswar, it has been a while since India has faced Asian giants at home, especially in the Southern part of the country where International hockey is returning after a gap of 16 years. During a break in the practice session at SAI, Harmanpreet said, "It will be a thrilling experience not just for us but also for the spectators. I hope hockey fans will turn up in large numbers to see top Asian rivals contesting."
