Heena remembers her father's tears of joy after her maiden international gold

Heena's previous timing in the 400-meter was 53.22 seconds.

Her father Rezaul Islam Mallick is a part-time teacher in a local school. He has to go out at around 4.30 in the morning every day for another job before coming back home and again going to school. He is somehow compelled to take this huge physical and mental stress. He has to run his family, especially to fulfill the financial needs of his 16-year-old daughter who is presently the country's one of the most promising middle-distance runners, staying in Bangalore for the last two years to train under Arjun Ajay.

Last week, Heena became the 'golden daughter' of Rezaul, winning her maiden international gold medal in the 400-meter event in the Asian Youth Championship in Tashkent when his daughter called her father from Tashkent, informing him about the desired gold, could listen to the sound of tears of her father in joy.

The proud of Shondanga village in Nadia district also dedicated her first international gold medal to her parents, other family members, and her coach Arjun Ajay. Heena and her coach returned to Bangalore on Wednesday. Speaking to Parallel Sports from Bangalore, Heena explained, "This is my best timing so far in the 400-meter (52.98 seconds). My previous timing was 53.22. I could have finished the event in even 52 seconds. But on that particular day, we all had to face a windy atmosphere."

Heena paid huge gratitude to her present coach Arjun Ajay commenting, "He has immense contribution to my development. I would not have made such improvement if Arjun sir was not with me." However, Heena also mentioned Kalyan Chowdhury's name under whose tutelage she learned the basics as well as mentioned the organization Kolkata Ultra Trust that has been offering her assistance to some extent. Heena also said that the congratulations she received from a few coaches from other countries like Oman, and Sri Lanka were her one of the memorable gains.

Now, Heena will prepare for the junior Asian Games, scheduled to be held in South Korea next month. But the girl has set focus on her only dream. That is to stand on the podium with the medal in the Olympics.
