Hima Das to miss Asian Games due to hamstring injury

since April, Hima failed to take part in any of the competitions held in India and abroad.

Injuries forced 2018 Jakarta Asian games silver-medalist Hima Das from staying away in the ongoing Inter-state athletics meet, the qualification tournament for the Hangzhou Asian Games this year. So she will naturally miss the prestigious competition.

The 23-year-old Hima has been suffering from hamstring injury since April. Additionally she has not yet cured her back injury completely. After returning from Jakarta Hima's graph started declining, mainly due to injury.

She nearly missed out on a spot in the 200-meter final at the Commonwealth Games last year. Then, since April, Hima failed to take part in any of the competitions held in India and abroad. Athletics Federation of India (AFI) anticipated that she would be able to compete in the National Inter-State Championship, which gets underway at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar from 15th June. The competition will also be the last opportunity for Indian track and field athletes to qualify for the Asian Games.

The AFI had made it clear that to be considered for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, which are slated to take place from September 23 to October 8, all athletes, except for those like Neeraj Chopra who have been granted an exemption, must compete in the National Inter-State Championship, which has commenced on Thursday.
