Hockey Bengal finds new president after 12 years; Bose willing to introduce women’s hockey team

Sribhumi Sporting Club is already a name to reckon with in Bengal and Indian women’s football fraternity and the club is promoted by Bose.

After a gap of 12 years, Hockey Bengal found its new president, the state minister in charge of Fire and Energy Services, Sujit Bose. 

Swapan Bannerjee who was the secretary for four years and then president for consecutive eight years had to leave the president's chair following the national sports code. Bannerjee will not be able to hold any post in the association for the next four years.

However, Sujit Bose who is a key enthusiast in promoting football in Bengal has desired willingness to introduce a women’s hockey team in the introductory Kolkata women’s hockey league from next season. 

Sribhumi Sporting Club is already a name to reckon with in Bengal and Indian women’s football fraternity and the club is promoted by Bose. 

Bose also has asked the association's secretariat to give importance to women's hockey along with men's hockey in the state. He also has asked Hockey Bengal to develop infrastructure in future. 

However, the first-ever Astro-turf ground consisting of a stadium in Bengal, at the Salt Lake Stadium complex is expected to be ready early next year.
