‘I-League will see a new Sahil’ promises Harijan

Sahil had to skip the call-up in the national under-19 preparatory camp also due to the injury.

He was the ‘find out’ of the last CFL Premier League. He scored 12 goals with Pathachakra in the CFL Premier League and struck 13 goals in the second division I-League with United Sports.

Kolkata’s football fraternity undoubtedly agreed to the notion that Bengal football had one of its best potential Bengali strikers after a long time.

Even former legendary striker Shyam Thapa sounded highly impressed and optimistic about Sahil Harijan after watching his brilliant goal scored through the bicycle in the CFL Premier League against Southern Samity at Durgapur.

The 16-year-old striker will not be seen in the CFL Premier League that started Tuesday. He had to undergo an ankle surgery on 28th May and has been ruled out of the pitch for the next four months.

It was the concluding match of United Sports in the second division I-League in Mumbai. United Sports survived in the second tier of the League riding on Sahil’s strike. “It was our concluding match. I jumped in the 70th minute and landed badly which resulted in the injury,” remembered Sahil.

Sahil did not watch the CFL Premier League's inaugural match and shut down the TV out of frustration. The frustration has increased as Sahil had to skip the call-up in the national under-19 preparatory camp also due to the injury.

Still, the striker has not given up mentally. He revealed that he was watching his goals and match performance last season to keep the spirit. United Sports looked after him and helped him financially to complete the surgery. The club's director Nabab Bhattacharya is continuously inspiring him, trying to help him to come of his depression by often calling him, and going his home.

Additionally, Sahil revealed his parents are also there, trying to motivate him constantly. Sahil’s first coach, former India international Lal Kamal Bhowmick also is calling him often, trying to boost him.

Cristiano Ronaldo is another name of encouragement for Sahil during this phase. “Ronaldo was going through severe chest disease. Doctors almost banned him from playing the game professionally. Today, everybody is watching what he is doing on the field. If he can come back fighting out the odds then why not me?”

Sahil who has started doing light rehab, promised he will bounce back as a more incisive and deadly striker for the opposition defenders. “I hope to be fully fit before the second division I-League this season and will be able to deliver my best. I promise the second division I-league this season will see a new ‘Sahil’ on the pitch.”
