The gold medal winner will get a direct quota for the Paris Olympics.
India defeated Korea 5-3 in a thrilling semi-final on Wednesday to enter the men’s hockey final where they will face either China or Japan in the Asian Games at Hangzhou.
Hardik Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Amit Rohidas and Abhishek scored for India while Jung Manjae swiped a stunning hat-trick for Korea.
India led the first quarter with 3-0 victory. However, Korea pulled off two goals back to back in the second quarter and got the lead. India then converted a penalty corner to restore the scoreline and the 2014 champions managed a 4-2 lead at half time.
Due to poor defense from their opponents, South Korea scored from a penalty corner to make the score 4-3 in the third quarter.
The Koreans came forward with their skilled offence in the fourth round but the intensity of the match caught up to them and they were unable to further their score.
Abhishek then scored a stunning goal towards the end of the last quarter and bagged the much anticipated victory for India.
India's opponent in the final will be decided in the next game between Japan and China. The gold medal winner will not only savor the glory of winning the tournament but also automatic Olympic qualification.
