India beat Australia by 5 wickets to take 1-0 lead in 3-match series

India took the lead with a five-wicket victory against Australia in the first One Day International at Mohali on Friday. In reply to Australia's 276 all out, India won the match scoring 281, losing five wickets.

Ravindra Jadega and Mohammad Shami provided a much needed breakthrough with the wicket of Warner and Smith respectively.

Mohammad Shami scalped five wickets at the cost of only 51 runs while Suryakumar Yadav turned out the key man to guide India to the desired victory. He was perfectly assisted by KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad. SKY proved himself by scoring 50 off 49 deliveries. 

India started with a bang with Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring 142 in record time chasing the 277 run mark. Though Adam Zampa dismissed Gill and Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer was unfortunately was run out. India was back on track with KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scoring 80 run-partnership. SKY impressively kept away from the wicket until he scored half century which sealed the deal and put India in the brink of victory. Vice captain Rahul ended the match with style, being unbeaten with 58 off 63. With this win, India not only secured the number one rank in ODI but also has become the top ranked team in men's tests and T-20s.
