Triple jumper Parveen Chithravel qualified for the 2023 World Athletics in Cuba after breaking national records. Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary set men's and women's national marks in a track event in the USA.
Chithravel jumped 17.37 m to win gold at the V Prueba de Confrontacion 2023 competition on Saturday in Havana, Cuba. This is a category F World Athletic meet. He broke the earlier National record of 17.30 m set by Renjith Maheswary in 2016.

Chithravel also qualified for the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championship after overtaking the qualifying standard of 17.20 m. His earlier best was 17.18 m at Chennai National Inter-State Athletics Championship. Chithravel, who is presently undergoing training in Cuba under Yoandri Betanzos, after his 17.37 m effort has been placed second in the season's top list for non-wind assisted jump.
World junior championship medallist T Silva Prabhu, who is also under training with Chithravel, has broken the U-20 National records with an effort of 16.58 m to finish fourth.

In USA Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary bettered the men's and women's national records in 5000 m. They ran in the Sound Running Track Festival, a World Athletic Continental Tour silver-level event in Los Angeles.
Sable bettered his own earlier national record of 13:25:65 by clocking 13:19:30 and finished in the 12th position. Chaudhary broke 13 years standing national record of Preeja Sreedharan (15:15:89) and finished in the ninth position clocking 15:10:35.
Sable also holds the national record in the 3000m steeplechase, his main event. He won silver in this event in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He has already qualified for the 2023 World Athletics Championship in men's 3000m steeplechase.

Parul, bronze medallist in Asian Championship 5000 m said, "I am happy to break a national record which was intact for 13 years." The Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS) trainee said, "I have been training in the USA since April and I have benefitted much." Coach Scott Simmons feels after taking training at the higher altitude of Colorado Springs, USA, the athletics has done better.
