Investors want to leave; Uncertainty looms large over Mohammedan Sporting’s ISL debut

The investors have alleged against the club's top officials' volt-a-face by defying the term sheet signed by the investors and the club's top officials around 10 days ago.

Mohammedan Sporting received a big blow in the eleventh hour before their debut in the Indian Super League (ISL), starting on 13th September.

Uncertainty looms large over the team's participation despite having earned the qualification as the investors want to leave the club. The investors have alleged against the club's top officials' volt-a-face by defying the term sheet signed by the investors and the club's top officials around 10 days ago.

The club's key investors Bunkerhill Sports and Shrachi Sports who joined Mohammedan Sporting as its key sponsor want to leave the club.

According to Dipak Singh, one of the Bunkerhill directors and an executive committee member of Mohammedan Sporting, Rs 6 crore will have to be deposited to the FSDL, the organizer of ISL within the next 24 hours.

Dipak who has already posted his messages on social media about their withdrawal from the club, asserted while speaking over the phone, "We are not giving the money. Shrachi Sports has also withdrawn. If this amount cannot be deposited by Tuesday then Mohammedan Sporting’s debut in ISL will not be possible. A section of the club’s senior executives is now defying the signed term-sheet and made a new agreement which will not be possible for us to sign.”

Singh alleged that the club officials are now demanding that the Board will consist of five club officials with two representatives each from Bunkerhill and Shrachi Sports despite the fact that these officials signed on the term that the Board would consist of two representatives each from the club, Shrachi Sports and Bunkerhill. The investors gave the club a deadline to make the final agreement based on the term-sheet by Monday evening. But the club has not reportedly agreed.

Dipak Singh commented, “I want to see what the club officials reply to the fans. They might be thinking that they will be able to deposit Rs 6 crore within Tuesday. Let us see what happens.”

Incidentally, Mohammedan Sporting secretary Ishtiaque Ahmed and the president Aminuddin Bobby when contacted for their reactions did not pick up phones. One of the vice-presidents Qamaruddin said, “The secretary and the president are dealing with the matter. I do not know what is happening on the matter.”
