Is Taiwan and China same? Beijing police perplexed with Messi's question

Taiwan, an island in the southeastern part of China, considers itself an independent country.

Messi is in China to play a friendly match for the national team of Argentina.

He fell into a big mess at the Beijing airport. He had a Spanish visa and he was stuck at the airport for a long time while travelling to Bejing. He was stranded for almost two hours. The video went viral on the social media where Messi was seen talking to police officers. He offered a question to the police officers which perplexed them completely. Leo asked, "Well, isn't Taiwan China same?"

He thought that Taiwan and China were the same country. It is not known what the police officers replied to his question. But within a couple of hours, he got the passport. It should be noted that the dispute between Taiwan and China is very old. Not only Messi, but many people are confused about the fact that Taiwan is separate from China.

The point is that China considers Taiwan a part of its territory. On the other hand, Taiwan, an island in the southeastern part of China, considers itself an independent country. There is a separate constitution, a government elected by the people and it is not part of China. However, Messi's confusion led many to realize that China and Taiwan are not the same country.
