Ishan Kishan replaces KL Rahul in the Indian team for WTC

After consultation with the specialists, it has been decided that Rahul will undergo surgery.

Ishan Kishan has replaced KL Rahul in the Indian squad which will play the World Test Championship at the Oval against Australia. 

Rahul was injured while fielding against RCB on 1st May 2023. After investigation, it was detected that Rahul has injured his right upper thigh. After consultation with specialists, it has been decided that Rahul will undergo surgery followed by rehab at the National Cricket Academy. As such he is ruled out of the WTC. 

BCCI has announced the name of Ishan Kishan who will be replacing Rahul. Ishan is yet to play a test for India. He was in the Indian squad for the Gavaskar-Border trophy but did not get a game. The left-handed batter has played 48 first-class games scoring 2985 runs at an average of 38.76. In the ongoing IPL Ishan has scored 293 runs at an average of 29.30 in 10 matches. Ishan will be the second wicketkeeper behind K S Bharat.
