Jadeja says he was confident of picking wickets at Eden

This is the second time that Jadeja has picked five wickets in an ODI match

With a historic career-best five-wicket haul from veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and Virat Kohli's record-equalling ton team India won over South Africa by 243-run in the ongoing ICC World Cup on Sunday.

Jadeja became India's second spinner to bag a fifer at the showpiece event and joined legendary cricketer Yuvraj Singh (5 for 31 vs Ireland) in the special club. This is the second time that the left-arm spinner has picked five wickets in an ODI match. He relegated his five for 36 in 2013 against the West Indies to the second place.

Jadeja mentioned that the reason of his splendid wicket picking is Kolkata's Eden Gardens' low bounce, “We know that in Kolkata we will get wickets that are slow and helpful to spinners, so we had gone into the match with that mindset. The bounce is always low at the Eden.”

The left arm spinner also elaborated that it always helps spinners when the pacers take 2-3 quick wickets. He lauded the Indian Pacers saying, “Our pacers are doing that and more consistently. When we (spinners) come in to bowl, we are already at an advantage."

Jadeja went on to talk about the preparations they had to make and mentioned that they needed to be ready for the dew. "If the dew happens, a lot of things change,” he said. “If the ball gets wet, gripping might be difficult and even a regular team starts looking good. So, we do have that in mind when we prepare.”

'Rockstar' Jadeja is a great all-round package, India coach Rahul Dravid had said after mentioning how difficult it is for a No. 7 batter to contribute consistently.

“The all-rounder’s role is to get 30-40 runs when it is tough and break a difficult partnership. That’s what I try to do. And with my fielding, well, I am never relaxed about it,” said Jadeja.
