Jasprit Bumrah has been named ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year. His outstanding form in red-ball cricket last year earned him this honour. Bumrah was exceptional during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking 32 wickets in five matches. He finished the year with a total of 71 wickets.
This is Bumrah’s first ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award. He is now the sixth Indian to receive this accolade, joining the likes of Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli. He took 71 wickets in 13 matches at an impressive average of 14.92. No bowler with over 70 wickets in a calendar year has achieved such a low average.
Bumrah has been India’s go-to bowler both at home and overseas. He was instrumental in victories against England and Bangladesh on Indian soil. Abroad, he performed brilliantly in South Africa and Australia. Bumrah even captained the team during the Australia series.
His year was filled with remarkable spells. He took 8 wickets in South Africa and 19 against England. In Bangladesh, he added 11 more to his tally. While he struggled against New Zealand with just 3 wickets, Bumrah ended strong in Australia with 32 wickets, including two early this year. His consistency and impact have cemented his place as a modern Test legend.
