One of Jeje's key motives behind joining politics was to develop football and sports in the state.
He has a bright chance of sitting on the state sports minister's chair. Still, he will be sure about it after 8th December, Friday’s party meeting.
But even if he is not chosen Mizoram’s sports minister, Jeje Lalpekhua does not seem bothered. One of Indian football’s leading strikers who said goodbye to his career in February this year, clearly revealed while speaking to Parallel Sports that one of his key motives behind joining politics was to develop football and sports in the state.
"I have been running grass-route and youth coaching programs for a few years. My observation is that Mizoram lacked a lot of fundamental elements which are mandatory for the development of football. Even if I am not chosen the sports minister of the state, as one of the ruling party workers, now I will try to fulfil those basic needs for the overall development of football."
Jeje pointing out the specific issue, added, "The grass-route and youth program must be expanded. Unless infrastructure is properly improved you cannot develop grass-route and youth football.”
The former Indian international alleged that the previous government of not increase the budget for sports. He described, “The state needs quality grounds for training and matches. The previous government looked reluctant to increase the budget to promote sports.”

He added, "There are so many youth camps around the districts that do not have good ground, required footballs, or even qualified coaches as the organizers did not have sufficient money. I will ask my party and the administration to increase the budget for the sports so that infrastructure gets improved."
