Football is set to take off a new ride in Kashmir courtesy J&K Sports Council and the government; AIFF keen to conduct an international friendly match in the valley

J&K Sports Council has already built up multi-sport indoor stadiums in all the 20 districts of Kashmir which is a rare example.

J&K Sports Council, an autonomous body in Jammu & Kashmir and the apex body of the state government has been promoting sports for the past 10 years by providing and developing infrastructure and coaching facilities across the valley. It has taken football promotion to the next level.

Inspired by Jammu and Kashmir's thrilling performance in the recently concluded senior national championship, Santosh Trophy, where the state team bowed out of the competition in the quarter-finals after a long time, the J&K Sports Council following the encouragement from the LG Govt and newly elected Government of J&K are taking various plans regarding the development of the game across the valley.

The infrastructure is being developed in a way where more national preparatory camps are expected to take place in Kashmir in near future.

J&K Sports Council which has got the AIFF permission to take part in the under-20 boys’ national championship this year is planning to strengthen the preparation by building up the team through conducting extensive scouting and selection program. It is also believed that plans have been made to appoint Isfaq Ahmed as the coach for the tournament.

Even the LG Govt and newly elected Government has reportedly planned to partner with the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) to develop football in the valley. As its reflection, J&K Sports Council has decided to organize a World Coaches' refreshers' course in Jammu from 1st to 5th February. Thirty local coaches will participate in the course, while the top five UEFA-licensed coaches might attend the workshop.

At the same time, following the All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaube's recent visit, the possibility of an international friendly match between former Indian legends and former legends, comprising world football’s a few former legendary footballers being staged in Kashmir has come up. It is learned that the AIFF is keen to conduct such an international match to popularize the game in the valley.

Nuzhat Gul, the first female secretary of J&K Sports Council commented when asked about future plans to promote the game in the valley said, "Our aim is to develop the infrastructure, proper scouting program and provide modern coaching facilities as much as possible. I believe it will help our boys not only to progress in football but will also benefit the players in their respective disciplines. Simultaneously, I should thank the J&K government for its utmost support in the promotion of the game.”

J&K Sports Council has already built up multi-sport indoor stadiums in every district of Kashmir which is a rare example and fifth edition of Khelo India Games is going to be organized by the J&K Sports Council which is expected to be a huge success.

The state government's highest level of assistance is helping us to bear all the expenses for our state team's preparation for the Santosh Trophy. So, we are set to take off with more splendor, making more shining results in the future."
