Jose Molina played for five years at Atletico Madrid, signing with the club in 1995. In his first year, he helped the team win both the league and the Copa del Rey, missing only two league matches over the next four seasons.

Jose Molina made his Spain national team debut as an outfield player against Norway on April 24, 1996, appearing briefly as a left winger after all substitutes had been used by coach Javier Clemente and Juan Manuel López had to leave the field due to injury. He was part of the squads for UEFA Euro 1996 and the 1998 FIFA World Cup
