Kashmir Welcomes the Return of International Cricket, Sparking Joy and Economic Growth

Starting on September 20, the event drew massive crowds and marked the return of international cricket to the Valley after 40 years.

In a region where nightlife is nearly nonexistent due to ongoing conflict, a late-night sporting event seems like a dream.

The newer development surely brought a surge of excitement to cricket enthusiasts, especially young men born after the 1990s.

Not only for the cricket spectators but also this move will surely boost the economy of Srinagar. International sporting events are set to boost local businesses. The Legends League attracted spectators from across the country to Srinagar, revitalizing industries like hotels, restaurants, and transportation services.

Mohammad Basit, 25, returned home around 1 a.m. on Thursday after attending a live cricket match featuring former international players at Srinagar's Bakshi Stadium.

The announcement of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) event in September thrilled me to the core,” stated Basit.

The LLC, a T20 league featuring former international players, hosted seven matches of its third edition at Srinagar's Bakshi Stadium, which was revamped under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP).

Starting on September 20, the event drew massive crowds and marked the return of international cricket to the Valley after 40 years. The final match, held on Wednesday evening between Southern Super Stars and Konark Suryas Odisha, attracted over 27,000 fans.

“The Super Over of the match made it a thrilling spectacle with Southern SuperStars lifting the trophy,” stated Mohammad Shahid, another delighted Srinagar resident.
