Kerala's Legendary Football Coach TK Chathunni Passes Away at 79

Renowned Kerala football coach TK Chathunni, a towering figure in Indian football, passed away at the age of 79. Chathunni breathed his last at a hospital in Kochi on Monday, leaving behind a legacy spanning over five decades as both a player and coach.

A former Indian player, Chathunni's career is etched in the annals of Indian football history. He nurtured numerous talents, including Kerala's I.M. Vijayan and Goa's Bruno Coutinho, both of whom rose to prominence under his guidance.

Chathunni's playing career was marked by his contributions to several prominent teams. He played for the army team EME Secunderabad, Vasco Goa, and Orkay Mills Bombay, and represented Santosh Trophy teams such as Services, Goa, and Maharashtra.

Transitioning seamlessly into coaching, Chathunni began his illustrious coaching career in 1979 with the Kerala Santosh Trophy team. Over the years, he helmed several top clubs across India's major footballing states, including M.R.F. Goa, Churchill Goa, K.S.E.B., Salgaocar, Mohun Bagan, F.C. Cochin, VIVA Kerala, Golden Threads, Josco F.C., and VIVA Chennai.

TK Chathunni's impact on Indian football is immeasurable. His strategic acumen and dedication to the sport have left an indelible mark on countless players and fans. As the football fraternity mourns his loss, his contributions continue to inspire future generations.
