Kumar's effort goes in vain as Gill, Shami and Mohit take Hyderabad among the top two

Shami finished at the figure of 4 overs 21 runs and four wickets while Mohit also captured four wickets at the cost of 28 runs in scheduled four overs.

Mohammed Shami's brilliant piece of bowling, assisted perfectly by Mohit Sharma guided Gujarat Titans to a 34-run victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ahmadabad on Monday. With the triumph Titans ensured a place in the top two, gathering 18 points. Shami finished at the figure of 4 overs 21 runs and four wickets while Mohit also captured four wickets at the cost of 28 runs in scheduled four overs. In reply to Titans' 188 for 9, Hyderabad innings ended in 154 for the loss of 9 wickets.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to field first. Their captain Aiden Markram might not have imagined he would have pay for it. Even, after the man-in-form Wriddhiman Saha's departure on the third ball SRH skipper might have thought that his decision of asking Gujarat Titans to bat was correct. Titans lost the wicket of Saha without a score.

Their second wicket fell when the score was 147. Shubman Gill, going to bat at number three was in scintillating form and his devastating 101 off 58 deliveries helped Gujarat Titans to take the score to 188 at the loss of nine wickets finally. Sai Sudarshan was also in good touch, offering a perfect assistance to Gill with 47 off 36 deliveries. Gill, after missing a ton by whisker only a week before, registered his maiden IPL century, hitting one six and 13 fours in his innings.

Significantly, Indian international Bhubneshwar Kumar who struck the opponent innings on his very third delivery, getting Saha out for a duck, scripted an impressive haul of five wickets giving away 30 runs in scheduled four overs. But his effort went in vain finally.

Even amidst Hyderabad's fall down with the bat, Kumar stood beside Henrich Klaasen, scoring spirited 27 off 26 deliveries in the eighth wicket partnership. Klasasen was the only man who fought against Gujarat Titans' lethal bowling of Mohammedan Shami and Mohit Sharma, scoring 64 off 44 deliveries, registering his second half-century of the season.
