Pradeep Yadav, the coach of the Assam sub-junior national team rued for the lack of minimum support from the state government for gymnastics. Yadav who is in Kolkata with the state sub-junior national team said while speaking to Parallel Sports, "gymnastics is hugely neglected in Assam. The gymnasts from only three districts are seen practicing the game in our state and unfortunately, the state has only three gymnastics coaches. So, even though many boys and girls are interested to join the game they cannot get coaches. "The coach added, " All those who have come from Assam to Kolkata to participate in this competition have come at their own expense. The government has not provided the least percentage of support for them. The government made a lot of promises. The government promised to rope in gymnastics coaches from other states. But the promise has not yet been fulfilled and as a reflection, several boys and girls are leaving and joining other games. "The interest in gymnastics developed recently in Assam after Upasana Talukder, a promising gymnast participated in rhythmic gymnastics in Khelo India Youth Games this year for the first time representing the state. According to Yadav, many young boys and girls were seen inspired by Upasana's participation and the coach mentioned that 10 girls have started practicing gymnastics seriously. Pradeep himself runs a private academy. Children of Assam are encouraged to play gymnastics every day. He is training the kids at the academy. Pradeep said that government support is needed to continue gymnasts.
