The first-ever professional club launched a couple of days ago 1 Ladakh FC is going to rope in a British coach for its senior football team. The club has shortlisted around 30 footballers so far. Five to six potential footballers from Ladakh and the remaining footballers from different states including a couple of foreign footballers have been included so far.
The club which also has roped in a few sponsorships is also going to introduce a couple of aspects that can make its activities green and eco-friendly also. As per rules set by the club's top brass, the footballers will have to do cycling to the training grounds to using aluminum water bottles and participate in cleaning water streams. It has come up with an ambitious plan to be the 'cleanest and greenest' club in India, with a target to attain Net Zero Carbon by 2025.
Tsering Angmo, one of the club's founders and the director commenting on the first-ever professional club explained, "Being a lady I always had the desire to develop women's football in Ladakh and its surrounding districts. I took the initiative of forming a women's team and sent them to take part in the women's national championship in Chhattisgarh. While roaming around the region of Union Territory for the last five-six years I noticed the enthusiasm among the girls as well as women to play the game. So, on behalf of 1 Ladakh FC, we are also going to introduce a women's team very soon. Simultaneously, a women's football league consisting of several clubs across the Union Territory will be introduced within a couple of months. My desire is for 1 Ladakh FC takes part in the Indian Women's League next year."
Significantly, 1 Ladakh FC has decided to call women footballers from the Muslim community into the selection trials while building up its women's team. Angmo said, "During my recent trip to Saudi Arabia I noticed tremendous enthusiasm among Muslim women there. Similarly, I have watched the craze among Muslim girls about football in Kargil also. Even, a few footballers from the community have got into the team who are playing in the women's national championship in Chhattisgarh. If they can survive financially through football then I will be the happiest person."
1 Ladakh FC is roping in a coach from England for the senior team which try to win the district football league and participate in the second division I-League next year. Ladakh Football Association (LDA) is likely to start the district league where around 30 clubs across the region are expected to participate.
Right now, Ladakh does not have any full-size ground. It has a couple of grassy grounds where a seven-a-side match can be organized while Leh has two full-size stadiums consisting of artificial turf. Angmo added, "We have already made an appeal to UT authority to install at least full-sized ground at Ladakh. Then we will start young development programs with under-15 and under-17 teams."
